An international consultation on rattan cultivation , held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, brought together policy markers, foresters, growers, researchers, and industry and marketing companies operating in several South East Asian countries. Through a retrospective analysis and an open debate about the future of a culture capable of generating a market of more than a billion dollars a year, this meeting was intended to generate new practical information and direction for the benefit of national and international organizations involved in the rattan business. Research works and study cases presented at the meeting were included in this collective book, binded together by an analysis of the present status of rattan cultivation and by the experts recommendations for the future development of the rattan sector.
