A major achievement for INIBAP in 1997 was the completion of the lst version of the software for the Musa Germplasm Information System (MGIS). A training course in the use of the system was organised for genebank curators in September, The MGIS will facilitate the identification of duplicates/ synonyms in collections and, through providing a tool for increased information exchange, will encourage increased use of material held in collections.
