The original causes of Tapping Panel Dryness has yet to be identified. Genetic factors at molecular level in the latex producing tissues determine susceptibility, to Tapping Panel Dryness. An experimental approach involves two-dimensional electrophoresis to detect any newly or over-expressed proteins in the latex of diseased trees. The results presented show that it is possible to characterize trees affected by TPD by detecting the corresponding protein markers in latex.
