O manejo dos "fundos de pasto" no nordeste baiano: um exemplo de reforma agraria sustentavel
Sabourin E., Caron P., Da Silva P.C.G.. 1999. RaÃzes - Revista de Ciências Sociais e Econômicas, 20 : p. 99-102.
In the Sertà o of Bahia, the lands called Fund of Pasture, old unoccupied areas, have been object of a public project of regularization of titles of collective property. The article places this experience in the limits of the land history of the Brazilian northeast and analyzes the strategies of the actors engaged in the handling of those lands, in particular, the communities of Massaroca (Juazeiro-BA). The evolution of the economic context of the 1970s and the rapid change in the production systems has modified the use of the Fund of Pasture. The organizations of producers are confronted with new forms of handling of the common lands and with negotiations for individual and collective decision-making. The original situation of use and redistribution of land constitutes a true laboratory on the question of decentralized and sustainable land reform.
