Symposium of the International Society of Root Research. 6, 2001-11-11/2001-11-15, Nagoya (Japon).

A model estimating root length density of maize from root impacts on a soil profile, previously developed, was validated in Africa and Columbia using unchanged coefficients but independent data. The model uses geometric rules as well as empirical determinants of root distribution. The results suggest that the model is sufficiently robust to be used for rapid estimations of RLD distribution in the field
