The steam gasification of carbon present in char is a way to convert it into a fuel gas. In order to develop a fixed-bed gasifier macroscopic model, a particle scale model has been implemented to get a better understanding of thermal, chemical and transfer/flow phenomena involved in the process, and of their couplings. Simulations were performed for different particle diameters, different temperatures and different steam partial pressures. Confrontations with experimental data indicated that the model predictions are both qualitatively and quantitatively satisfactory.
