Effect of genotype on cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) attractiveness towards mirids

Laboratory tests were performed in Cameroon in order to assess the level of attractiveness of eleven cocoa genotypes towards mirids. Clones were ranked according to their attractiveness score and from a distance to a mean value. An analysis of variance was performed and showed significant differences between cocoa clones (F=3.15, p<0.0006). The cocoa clones grouping reveals three major categories, with BE10 and SNK413 showing the highest attractiveness. In contrast, five clones, IMC60, the Catongo trinitario clones, Playa Alta2 (from Venezuela), SIC5 and SNK614 showed a lower attractiveness than the mean. Four Clones (PA107, SNK619, UPA134 and T60/887) showed attractiveness similar to the mean. The circular micro-test has the advantage that it does not need a reference cocoa clone. Comparisons with results of other studies are proposed. (Texte intégral)
