International Symposium on Multi-Strata Agroforestry Systems with Perennial Crops: Making Ecosystem Services Count for Farmers, Consumers and the Environment. 2, 2007-09-17/2007-09-21, Turrialba (Costa Rica).

A survey of coffee performance under and outside mature tree crowns on 50 smallholder farms was undertaken in the northern Lake Kivu area of Rwanda. Berry and parch yields were significantly higher in shaded than unshaded conditions and differences declined over the five weeks measured in the coffee season. In contrast there were no significant differences in cup quality parameters of acidity, flavor, body and aftertaste.
