Mayotte became a French territory in 2011, it thus became urgent to improve animal health surveillance. Cirad, veterinary services and ADEM (an association of farmers) united to create SESAM. In 2012-2013, SESAM determined serological prevalence of sheep diseases and abortive diseases in cattle, identified priority diseases and made an inventory of digestive parasites in cattle as long as it monitored RVF circulation in ruminants.
