Bourdeix R., Baudouin L., Ollivier J., Labouisse J.P.. 1999. Montpellier : CIRAD-CP, 110 p..

The consultancy has validated the effectiveness of the collecting strategies implemented in the IPGRI project "Technical Assistance for a Coconut Resources Network in Asia and the Pacific Region". The main recommendations are given below : - To safeguard the accessions collected in the past and planted in old neglected field gene banks (FGB) and to improve the sustainability of the new FGB; - To strengthen the pre-survey activities; - To promote collections and molecular studies in a few under-represented areas and in countries of the region which are not presently involved in the project; - To collect some more 10 to 20 cultivars bearing fruits with high percentage of husk. Case studies, including germplasm mapping, are presented.
