Molecular strategy for groundnut pre-harvest aflatoxin elimination : Recent advances and future prospects

Clavel D.. 2000. In : 7th Regional Groundnut Meeting for Western and Central Africa, Cotonou, 6-8 December 2000. s.l. : s.n., 7-2 p.. Meeting for Western and Central Africa. 7, 2000-12-06/2000-12-08, Cotonou (Bénin).

The traditional methods used for studying resistance to A. flavus are not conducive to identifying the specific components or metabolites that directly affect aflatoxin biosynthesis (Flaherty et al., 1995). Moreover, after twenty years of research in this area, no valuable sources of resistance have been found, particularly in the groundnut germplasm. Since conventional breeding methods for controlling aflatoxin are partially effective, novel biotechnology methods are needed to develop pre-harvest host-plant resistance to aflatoxin accumulation (Brown et al., 1999).
