This work aims to identify entomopathogenic fungi virulent strains of Beauveria bassiana and Metarhizium anisopliae against adults of the cotton boll weevil and also evaluates contact strategies for the control of this insect. Twenty-eight (28) strains, 24 and 4 from the B. bassiana and M. anisopliae species respectively, from diferent host origins and Brazilian geographical regions, were tested in lab conditions. M. anisopliae strains were more pathogenic than the B. bassiana ones and the confirmed mortality begun 2 days after the exposition to conidias. Moreover, the Unioeste 22 strain the others caused a mortality peak between 4 and 5 days after exposition. Compering aplication strategies, Unioeste 22 and E9 strains were respectively the more efficient with the exposition to Petri dishes cultivated conidias and rice preboiled cultivated conidia media. Strains and aplication methodologies seemed adequate, but additional study is necessary in order to allow practical aplication in the field.
