Workshop on development of risk assessment guideline, Beijing, China, 12th to 15th june 2012

A two days workshop, bringing together international experts on risk assessment and national experts on dengue and plague, has been organised in Beijing by WHO CO China and CDC China. During this worskhop, each international agency (WHO, ECDC, HPA, OIE) was presenting the context in which they were conducting Rapid Risk Assessment and Risk Assessemnt, and the framework and algorithm they were using. Practical examples were used to understand the concepts and the process of RA. During the second day , demonstration projects, one on dengue and the other one on plague were presented. For each project the conceptual framework and the qualitative analysis were discussed and recommandations from national and international experts were given. At the end of the workshop and after a one day meeting with Dr Feng Zjian, Director Assistant of China CDC, Director of Public Health Public Health Emergency Center, ChinaCDC, and experts from CIRAD, the French Research Centre for Agricultural Development and from EPIX-Analytics, the main contents of the national guideline has been drafted. Risk assessemnt methodology will follow the main framework of WHO and ECDC, the organisation of the RA group will be based on the strategy used at HAIRS, and risk pathways and scenario trees methodologies used by OIE will be as well included in the formal risk assessment. The guideline will cover methodology for Rapid Risk Assessment and methodology for formal Risk Assessemnt when policy needs are identify.
