Syndromic surveillance in resource scarce countries: application to the detection of influenza and other swine respiratory diseases in Northern Vietnam

Syndromic surveillance has not been widely implemented for animal disease surveillance in developing countries. It could allow cost-effective surveillance systems in resource scarce regions. A pilot syndromic surveillance was implemented with other concurrent surveillance protocols in Northern Vietnam to assess its feasibility for the detection of swine respiratory diseases, and particularly influenza.
