The development of a microsatellite kit for use with coconuts : Final report IPGRI n° 99/079
Baudouin L., Lebrun P.. 2002. Montpellier : CIRAD-CP, 52 p.. numero_rapport: CP_SIC 1460.
About 600 individual palms representing coconut global diversity were studied with 14 microsatellites selected from an initial set of 83. Their molecular profiles will serve as a reference database for coconut cultivar identification. An original software, dedicated to the identification of allogamous populations was set up and will be made available to COGENT network members. The sample required to effectively identify an unknown population ranges from 5 to 10 in most cases. Transfer of the techniques used (molecular and statistical) will require a training session during 2002. It is proposed that CIRAD will serve as a repository for molecular information in the future.
