In order to counteract negative social consequences of soil degradation due to intensive cultivation or inherent low soil fertility, activities funded by AFD (French Agency for Development) were conducted to develop farming systems based on Conservation Agriculture principles involving both agronomic research and extension services. These activities demonstrated at farm level a real potential to increase soil fertility and at the same time get more profits in contrasting situations of Lao PDR.
