In the frame of different projects led by the CIRAD citrus team, a comic strip was made on “huanglongbing” (HLB) disease and a comic booklet entitled “huanglongbing, the citrus disease” was produced. The goal was to put in image and make understand the mechanisms that preside over the spread of the HLB disease, without eluding the indispensable and more complicated aspects. Another critical issue was also to avoid making the topic off-putting for the young or uninitiated reader. The strip, divided into four parts, presents the disease and its origins, specifies the causes at the tissue and cellular level of citrus plants, the ways in which the bacteria are transmitted to the plants, and finally the means of scientists to fight the disease. The sources of creation and inspiration of images are specified, particularly the one imagined for the cover. Then are presented, the different stages of the elaboration from the writing of the scenario, the pencilling of the storyboard, the layout and the colouring of the vignettes to its final version, first distributed to the attention of the young public. The conditions of the realization of this work between the different people involved are also presented: the drawer, the person that elaborated the scientific file and favoured the communication of the work in relation with the scientific committees. At the end are presented TROPICSAFE Final Conference, 3-5 April 2022: “Huanglongbing” 44 the means of diffusion to make known this comic booklet.
