Leaf miner attacks were first observed in July 2007 on VARTC coconut plots. The insect responsible has been identified as Promecotheca opacicollis. Proposals have been made to contain the spread of the insect in the Vanuatu archipelago. The report includes several pictures of the insect and the damage caused to coconut trees.
