Child fostering is one of the primary living arrangements experienced by many children in Sub-Saharan Africa. However, little is known about whether parents discriminate against foster children in household resource allocation. In the concerning working paper, I investigate consumption inequality among foster and biological children using household data from Côte d'Ivoire (2015). I apply the “Outlay Equivalent Ratio”' approach to inferring discrimination in consumption expenditure allocated to children. I find some evidence of discrimination against foster boys aged 11-14.
